Ms. Priyanka Chatterjee
CEO, Young Hearts Club
I would like to speak about Young Hearts Club, a senior citizen living initiative that I am in the process of building. When I talk about Young Hearts Club, I often find it difficult to express it briefly, because it is not just a project, it is a deep and meaningful thought that gradually grew within me.
During the COVID period, when strict lockdowns confined everyone to their homes, I noticed something deeply unsettling in my own locality. There were many elderly people, senior citizens, whose families could not visit them. Many of them were left alone, isolated and vulnerable.
At that time, a few of us came together and formed a small support group. We went door to door to help elderly residents by providing essential medicines, groceries and masks. Through this experience, I truly realized how lonely life can become after a certain age. These were people who had worked hard all their lives, supported their families and contributed significantly to society, yet, as time passed, many of them were quietly forgotten.
They were confined to their homes, unable to interact freely with society, gradually drifting away from social life and suffering in silence. That was the moment when a strong thought came to my mind, what if something meaningful could be done for them?
That was the beginning of this initiative. Initially, it did not even have a name. All I envisioned was a safe, dignified living space for senior citizens, a place where they would have every necessary facility and could truly enjoy their golden years with comfort, care and respect.
It is often said that when you think of doing something good, the right people enter your life at the right time. That is exactly what happened when I shared my thoughts with Dr. Partha Sarathi Ganguly. He listened patiently and told me that he had been thinking along similar lines for a long time. He encouraged me, saying that this vision could indeed be turned into reality.
He invited me to visit the campus, walk through the space and discuss the idea in detail. When I sat with him and shared my thoughts, he understood the depth of the vision immediately and helped shape it with clarity and structure. Watching him so deeply involved in his work, multitasking effortlessly, yet taking time to listen and guide, was truly inspiring.
Above all, Young Hearts Club is my humble endeavour to ensure that no senior ever feels alone and that every golden year is lived with care, dignity and joy.
